The ZTE Nubia Play is a mid-range smartphone targeted at the youth. The smartphone is not just a mid-range device, it also packs a 5G network and impressive display.

Nubia is popularly known for gaming smartphones, so the Nubia Play will also perform well in that regard.

Design and Display

The ZTE Nubia Play has a premium body design that will attract many at first sight. At the back, then handset features an X gradient pattern similar to the one on Honor 9X. You will also find the 5G’ branding on the right side, and then Nubia’ branding at the bottom, and ‘Powered by Nubia’ branding on the left side.

Furthermore, at the top portion rear side of the phone is a vertical strip housing three cameras at the top right side of the strip and then an LED flash on the left side. The entire body weight 210-gram measuring 171.7 x 78.5 x 9.1 mm in dimensions.

On the front side, the Nubia Play has a 6.65-inches FHD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate similar to the one on Nubia Red Magic 5G.

The most interesting part is that it does not have any notch or punch-hole to interfere full-screen viewing experience. There is display protection as well and the display has an 80.5% screen-to-body ratio.

Camera

On the camera set-up, the Nubia Play packs a 48MP Sony IMX582 primary sensor similar to Redmi K20. This means 4K video recording on this smartphone is capped at 30 fps. Other sensors on the device include an 8MP ultra-wide unit, a 2MP macro camera, another 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is 16MP for selfies and video recording.

The main camera is equipped with some interesting features such as vlog mode like the one found on MIUI 11, a weird slow-motion video recording to capture dance moves and lightsaber effects, and many more.

Hardware and Software

The ZTE Nubia Play has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor and Adreno 620 GPU paired with 8GB RAM. It has an internal storage of 128GB and 256GB. There is no news if it supports a micro SD card or not.

For gaming, it packs a combo customizable shoulder buttons as well as an ICE 2.5 cooling system which is the combination of 61mm liquid cooling pipe, thermal gel, copper foil, and lastly is a graphite sheet.

Battery and Network

The ZTE Nubia Play has a massive 5,100 mAh battery with support for 30W PD fast charging compatible with both Qualcomm Quick Charge and PPS chargers. This juicer promise to last hours during the gaming session.

On the network, it has a dual-mode 5G – SA (standalone) / NSA (non-standalone) and the normal 4G. Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, DTS Audio, and dual stereo speakers. Overall, it runs on Android 10 with Nubia UI 8.0 on top.

ZTE Nubia Play Price and Availability

The ZTE Nubia Play will sell at a price of $339 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM, $382 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM and lastly is $424 for 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM.

The pre-order has already kick-off and you can order the phone in amazing colors such as Black, Blue, and White respectively.

In Nigeria, the ZTE Nubia Play will start selling for 135,000 Naira up to 185,000 Naira depending on the storage unit. Meanwhile, in Ghana, it’s expected to cost 2,100 Ghs and 38,000 Ksh in Kenya.
